Good Construction

This seems to be a good quality product with solid build construction. I installed it on an outdoor water line and it has kept the lines operating properly. To be fair, the nights have barely dipped below freezing on a few occasions since I installed this valve, so it hasn't had much of a test. We're going into summer now and I doubt this valve will really get put to the test until late fall, but so far it seems to be a well-built product.

The Newest Patented Freeze-Protection for Pipes Available

This stainless steel device senses the outdoor temperature and bleeds off a small amount of water to prevent it from bursting. This valve automatically reacts to cold temperatures. At 32 degrees F, it activates and keeps pipes safe to -5 degrees F.This valve uses patented freeze-prevention technology. It is the only product on the market that prevents the pipe from freezing through this technological leap. No electrical or battery power is required. The instructions are simple and straightforward.

If it works, it's a great thing

It is already past freezing danger in my part of the world, so I won't know if this thing actually works for another 10 months or so... but if it does, it will have been a very inexpensive alternative to a frozen spigot. Installation was easy, as long as you make sure the size is correct for your pipe. If it isn't you'll need an adapter to step the size up or down as appropriate.

An interesting option to prevent freezing faucets.

Unfortunately we are probably past freezing weather so I couldn't evaluate this completely, but I think I've convinced myself it will work. You have to install this device BETWEEN your unfrozen water line and the faucet you want to protect because it only protects pipes from freezing that are beyond it. The big question is whether the lines that exit your house will stay unfrozen. Mine are inside a foot thick log so I'm pretty sure they will, but who knows about thinner walls, even insulated ones? I'm pretty sure I've got this mechanism straight: this device works by shunting off water from inside it when temperatures hit freezing by means of a temperature sensitive metal spring that opens a bypass valve and allows very cold but not yet frozen water to fall on the ground or flow away via a hose you attach. Without expanding ice the device itself will not crack and the water that was removed is replaced by warmer water from your water source.I wanted to test this release valve so I connected two short pieces of scrap garden hose to both sides of the. device, filled them with water, and closed them off. Then I put them in my freezer overnight with a little cup under the discharge valve opening, figuring that if I saw ice in the cup or discharge tube that the valve had opened, and sure enough it did!I recommend this device with the caveat that it might be tricky to install. I installed this first one on the faucet that came through the thinnest wall and had the best access both inside and outside, and that was the one on my barn.
